Meet Eleni, Corporate Director of Post Award Grant Management, Research Management
Time at Partners HealthCare: 16 years
Hobbies: Being a mom to her 5-year-old son, cooking new dishes for her family
Q: What is your role within your business area or department at Partners HealthCare?
I oversee the Post Award team responsible for managing research grants from various federal, foundation and other non-profit funders. The team is skilled at understanding the regulations governing the funding received at Partners and works with other teams to administer the grants both financially and administratively. We will negotiate research agreements with the Sponsor and/or subcontractors to ensure the terms support and protect the work conducted by our researchers and Partners as a whole. Additionally, in Post-Award there are specialty roles involved in training and some areas of compliance certification.
Q: How do you and your team help to advance research and/or better patient care locally and/or globally?
It’s all about the patient. Only by allowing the researcher/principal investigator (PI) the ability to maximize his or her time performing lab experiments, conducting data analysis or recruiting patients are we able to make advances in medicine. We are here to help him or her understand the rules surrounding the sponsored funding they are receiving. If the work is successful both scientifically and administratively, the PI has a better chance of maintaining funding in the future that can lead to interventions and cures. It’s a partnership.

Q: How does Partners HealthCare support you to achieve all of your goals?
Partners has provided me the technical tools I need to get my job done and the opportunity to work with colleagues that bring a unique perspective to the daily challenges we all face as professionals. Partners also provides flexibility in work location asI or members of the team don't have to be in the office to contribute successfully. Finally, I am empowered to make decisions and put actions in place, and am held accountable.
Q: What are your interests, hobbies or pursuits outside of your professional life at Partners?
I love playing and exploring with my five-year-old son -I'm always running around with him. I also enjoy gardening and cooking all types of food, especially traditional Greek cuisine.
