Success Story: Judith Crawford
Certified Nursing Assistant, Spaulding Hospital North Shore
Workforce Development Program Participation: Online College Preparation Program (OCPP); Medical Terminology; College for America
Where is Judith Today?
Emigrating from Jamaica in 2006, Judith came to the U.S. to find a better life and seek out educational and career opportunities to help support her family. Working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Spaulding Hospital North Shore, Judith learned about the many Workforce Development programs offered to Partners HealthCare employees.
Judith's Workforce Development Path
In 2013, Judith completed the Partners HealthCare Online College Preparation Program (OCPP), which provides a learning experience that simulates typical online college courses. Through OCPP, Judith took the online readiness and online math courses, as well as the college placement test. She also completed the online medical terminology course offered through a partnership between Partners HealthCare and Quinsigamond Community College.
Because of Judith’s commitment to online learning and working to further her education and career path, she was selected to enroll in the College for America (CfA) program, which represents a partnership between Partners HealthCare and Southern New Hampshire University. This innovative online associate’s degree program was offered to employees with a tuition incentive for the first year. For further CfA education, employees can use tuition reimbursement and other financial support from Partners HealthCare, which made it extremely affordable for Judith.
What has Judith Gained from these Programs?
“As a single parent with a mortgage and other necessary expenses, I couldn’t see any way for me to obtain my associate’s degree without causing a tremendous financial burden,” said Judith. “When I heard about the CfA program, I knew that it was an ideal opportunity for me.”
“These programs have greatly impacted my life,” said Judith. “I am grateful that the organization extended these opportunities to me and gave me such a financial blessing. By earning my associate’s degree, I have made my family very proud, and my biggest cheerleader is my seven-year old daughter Briana who said, “Yea Mom! You’ve made it!”
Judith's Outlook and Future Plans
Personally, Judith is proud of being a CNA who treats patients, their families and the staff at Spaulding Hospital North Shore with the respect and care that she would provide to her own family. Continuing with CfA, Judith is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in health care management, with a concentration in communications.
