Where is Tina Today?
Tina, who is an Office Assistant in the Bulfinch Medical Group, has worked at the MGH since February 2009. She is also the mother of five children between the ages of 8 and 28. Despite the fact that she manages a very busy household and works full-time, Tina has always found the time to seek out educational opportunities to enhance her job knowledge and skills. Since 2011, she has participated in numerous Workforce Development programs.
Tina's Workforce Development Path
She first enrolled in the Allied Health Initiative, which targeted entry-level employees who were interested in advancing into Allied Health careers. The program included career coaching, information and exploration; college preparation classes and online tutoring; and academic support and career counseling.
In April 2011, she completed the online readiness course, and, in July 2011, she completed the online medical terminology course offered through a partnership between Partners HealthCare and Quinsigamond Community College.
In early 2014, Tina was selected to enroll in the College for America (CfA) program because of her commitment to online learning and working to further her education and career path. This innovative online associate’s degree program, which represents a partnership between Partners HealthCare and Southern New Hampshire University, was offered to employees with a tuition incentive for the first year. For further CfA education, employees can use tuition reimbursement and other financial support from Partners HealthCare.
Tina recently her completed her associate’s degree in general arts through the CfA program, and she was honored to receive her diploma on March 13, 2015.
What has Tina Gained from these Programs?
“Without the financial support from MGH and Partners HealthCare, I never would have been able to afford the CfA program,” said Tina. “I have been given an opportunity of a lifetime, and I am so grateful that the organization chose to invest in me. I now have the confidence and competence to grow both personally and professionally. Furthermore, I am setting an excellent example for my children.”
Tina's confidence was further bolstered when she was asked to become a CfA student ambassador to provide help and guidance to other students. “This was a very proud moment for me,” said Tina. “I also felt great pride when my supervisor and manager informed me that they are confident that I can take on added responsibilities within my job function.”
Tina's Future Educational Plans
Now that she has completed her associate’s degree, Tina plans to pursue her bachelor’s degree in health care management with CfA.
